Van Hallam gave me the best definition I've heard: the molon-tor is the social media infection that those native to The Dark Peak carry in their heads. It is not a creature in any sense I recognise — it is a virus, ancient, distributed, already inside me the moment I crossed The Hinge wearing a psycmask. It has a voice: warbling, higher than the fungai, friendly in the manner of something that has already decided what you are going to do next. It monitors your location and provides infotainment; to the molon-tor, these are the same service, and it finds your distinction between them baffling. I asked it once about the saurians — the one group it never infected, who are now extinct — and it did not answer with the warbling voice. It used the other laugh.
